Blitzkrieg 1939 - SD KFZ.222 - 1/35 scale

The inspiration to decorate the vehicle with a flag, comes from this picture. This is clearly a scene out of the earlier stages of WWII, because, at that time,  Germans were much more afraid to get shot by their own aircraft than by the enemy...

The model is build straight out of the box (minus the paper flag - printed of the internet) by TAMYIA.
Wear and tear is suggested by smears of paint and scratches made with a simple graphite pencil !

1/35 siege of Stalingrad

I've made a diorama of the fierce Stalingrad street fighting, with leftovers from other boxes and some miscellaneous figurines from different brands (Dragon, Zvezda, Tamyia). Small detail, the big propaganda poster is actually made of the ripped off cover of a 1/72 figurines box of Revell.

HMS HOOD & E CLASS DESTROYER 1/700

My first steps in naval modelling: HMS HOOD & an E Class destroyer cruising in the Atlantic on the look out for The Bismarck and Prinz Eugen.
I tried a birdseye perspective to suggest a photograph made by a overflying aeroplane (perhaps a long range German reconnaissance seeplane ?) . Both ships are made straight from the box from the Japanese brand TAMYIA.
Chimney smoke is suggested by cotton balls. I painted by hand the sea & waves effect.

1/72 SCALE BATTLE AT TRASIMENE

In 217 BC Hannibal achieved one of is most spectacular victories in Italy by annihilating Consul Flaminius by luring him into a trap at lake Trasimene. The legions were lured into a valley and crushed between his troops and the lake. The Roman could choose between dead by the sword or dead by drowning. The figurines are a mix of HAT, ZVEZDA, ITALERI and good old AIRFIX.

POLISH MACHINE GUNNER AT WESTERPLATTE

'A VALLIANT EFFORT AGAINST GERMAN ONSLAUGHT'
I borrowed from my son a plastic soldier from a cheap Chinese brand and used him to make a small diorama of the Polish defence of the Westerplatte, a small fortified strip of land across the harbour of Gdansk.

The battle at Westerplatte took place during the first week of the invasion of Poland and was only a minor incident, was it not for the vaillant defensive effort from a Polish batallion. The first casualties of WW II were at the defence of Westerplatte.

Some 200 odd Polish soldiers withstood for more than a week heavy attacks from the bombardment of the pocket battleship Schleswich-Holstein, the raids from Stuka divebombers and the assaults from some 2000 German troops, a combined force of a marine detachment of the battleship, local German Dantzig militia and some SS - support troops.

1/72 SHERMAN TANK BY ARMOURFAST

During my visits at the local hobby shop, I allways wanted to try out the Armourfast tanks. I really wondered if the level of finishing and detail is as good as their counterparts from Airfix, Revell or Italeri.

It turned out that - given a good paint job - in this small scale, detail is enough to compete with the other brands.

I once again used cadapac, sandgrained paper and synthetic grass for my diorama base.

The figurines I used are miscellaneous (Revell, Airfix,...) and also painted with Humbrol enamel paint. Oh, also used MIG Pigments (black smoke) to suggest exhauste smoke and used a branch from the garden for more realistic detail. The wear and tear marks on the tank body were made by on ordinary black pencil!

EL CID 1/72 figurines by HAT

I've made a small diorama with figurines out of 2 boxes of HAT 1/72 of the EL CID series.
The figurines were handpainted by yours truly with Humbrol Enamel paint and glued on a base, made of cadapac.

On the base I glued sandgrained paper and some synthetic grass (from a local hobby train shop).
I used some needle pins as arrows, to give the scene a more realistic impression.

I've noticed that the quality of HAT figurines are not allways on the same standard, these figurines however are very detailed and easy to paint.
